A SMALL TV COMPANY THAT LOVES TO DIG DEEP
We might be the smallest production company in Norway. But perhaps the most flexible? We love working across regions and borders, and in different constellations. The company is creator-driven, and consider this a fair warning — we place a very high value on writers and scripts, and are convinced that those who have written and developed the series should be central to every part of the process. We call it integrated creation, and believe it makes us flexible, with opportunities for local adaptations and a leaner production model.
At times, the TV industry may seem globalized, with a uniform look that makes it hard to tell whether something is set in the UK, the US, or Australia. Audiences seem to love it, apparently. But we also know that a distinct regional and local voice can have just as wide an appeal to viewers worldwide. Our series are definitely developed and shot far from the most familiar locations, yet they sell well across the globe. What is truly unique often has a universal appeal.
NORDIC CRIME LAB
During the lockdown, we started to specialize in the crime genre. Our comfort zone was definitely the Arctic locations — deep forests, snow, cold, polar nights — or the same surroundings in summer, with daylight almost around the clock. Gradually, we moved out of our comfort zone, to Denmark, where we produced the first crime series based on Lone Theils’ bestselling book series about journalist Nora Sand.
We like the idea of a Nordic team developing across borders in collaboration with local professionals, authors, and experts. The Nordic crime and thriller wave is by no means over; the demand for crime worldwide is almost endless, but the genre must be continuously renewed to keep viewers engaged.
That is what Nordic Crime Lab is all about.
Sometimes we host Shuutonight. We enjoy mingling, sharing experiences, and listening to people who are better than us.
